Our Story

We break the stigma and taboos to create more openness and connection around mental health. We do this by raising awareness for the topic and by helping to start and continue the conversation.

Our clothing features colourful illustrations, stories and inspiring quotes, always brought in a fun, positive and light hearted way. We visit secondary schools to introduce young people to mental health in an accessible manner. We have developed a question game to encourage open conversations and Like Charlie donates 5 percent of its profit to the MIND Us foundation.

It is clear that more attention is needed for this topic, because more than one in three young people experience mental health challenges. And the clothing is not just for young people but for everyone, because everyone has a connection to mental health in some way.

Founder Jurren: “I struggled with my mental health for years and during that time I was not able to talk about it. Fortunately, I later learned that openness leads to improvement, and throughout this journey my deep motivation for Like Charlie was born.

Who is Charlie?

Across different prints we express stories about mental health through a character called Charlie. It is a unisex and international name so that everyone can recognise themselves in the character.

Charlie wears expressive clothing and has a distinctive hairstyle. Charlie is unapologetically themselves and loves doing things just a little differently. It can be: Like Charlie.

You can see this reflected in the story prints.

Which foundation does Like Charlie support?

MIND Us works to support the healthy development of young people: to help them be vulnerable, to grow, to learn and to experience. This helps them become more resilient and gain a sense of control over their mental health. MIND Us brings people and organisations together, stimulates innovative initiatives and ensures that the mental health challenges of young people receive the attention they deserve.

MIND Us: “Together with young people, policymakers, municipalities, entrepreneurs and scientists we create a platform where young people feel seen and heard. And where their ideas lead to more resilience and better mental health.
